HKUST – Waseda Dual Degree Program 

 

Selected high flyers of the SHSS undergraduate major students will have an opportunity to achieve two degrees from two internationally recognized universities, HKUST and Waseda, upon satisfactory completion of the program over 4.5 years. Program offering will vary in future years based on quota availability and overall program planning, Selected candidates may be invited to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science at the School of Political Science and Economics (SPSE), Waseda University. Waseda University’s School of Political Science and Economics emphasizes global education and training of leaders with a global perspective. Selected students must comply with HKUST and Waseda University’s policies and procedures.

 

Program Admission Requirement

 
 
  • Year 2 students with CGA of 3.5 or above at the time of application
  • A minimum TOEFL score (PBT 550 / CBT 213/ iBT 80 or new scale 4.5), or IELTS 6.0
  • JLPT N1 proof for enrolling courses in Japanese and entire program period (strongly advised)

 

Duration of Study

 
 
  • First 3 Years at HKUST
  • 1.5 to 2 Years of resident study at Waseda University
  • Selected students are not allowed to defer or take a leave of absence in, such action will result in withdrawal

 

Program Study Requirement 

 
 
  • Complete all required courses during the first three years of registration at HKUST, including Capstone Project and/or Research at HKUST
  • Complete 64 credits and all study requirements at Waseda University 
  • The Program may decide against the student study in any given period if certain condition is not met

 

Student Commitment

 

  • Students have to keep SHSS and SPSE student status along the dual degree program study.
  • Students are responsible for maintaining satisfactory health and physical condition suitable for participating in the program. SHSS and SPSE do not accept any liability for any health-related issues or incidents that may arise during the program.
  • Students are responsible for visa application, school registration, insurance matters, and other administrative requirements, as required by the SHSS or SPSE.
  • Students must comply with all academic and program requirements, schedules, and rules set by the Bai Xian Asia Institute or supporting institutions.

 

Tuition Fee and Living Expenses

 
 
  • Tuition fee to Waseda University is exempted only upon satisfactory completion of the program 
  • Students need to pay housing fees, insurance fee, visa application fee, travel fee and other personal expenses

 

Program Payment

  • All payments are non-refundable and non-transferable. No refund will be made if a student is being withdrawn from the program.
  • Students shall bear all additional costs and fees incurred if they fail to comply with any of the policies above. The final decision rests with the relevant partner institutions.

 

Dual degree program arrangement and availability is subject to Waseda University's final decision. SHSS students have to complete the study at HKUST if the program is not being offered.
