New BSc program in Global China Studies attracts many high school students on Information Day

The newly launched BSc program in Global China Studies from the School of Humanities & Social Science (SHSS) was definitely one of the highlights of the HKUST Information Day on 18 Sept, 2010. We distributed more than 10,000 copies of SHSS informational materials at our information booths.

It was our honour to have Under Secretary for Education Mr Kenneth Wei-on Chen (陳維安先生) give us a wonderful talk entitled “How Does Our 21st-Century Tertiary Education Help You to Prepare for the Challenges from Hong Kong, China and Globalization?” The talk attracted a full house, double the capacity of our lecture theatre, and many had to sit on the staircases or stand on the sides.

To let prospective students know more about our new BSc program, Global China Studies: Humanities & Social Science, our faculty members conducted five open lectures for interested members of the public. Many high school students and parents attended these sessions and raised a lot of questions and enquires, which showed that many of them are interested in our new program.
