Appointment Ceremony of Master Guo Gan as Adjunct Professor, Visiting Professor, and Artist-in-Residence

The HKUST School of Humanities and Social Science is honoured to welcome internationally acclaimed erhu master Guo Gan as Adjunct Professor, Visiting Professor, and Artist-in-Residence. The appointment ceremony, held on 22 April 2025, was officiated by Acting Dean Professor Cameron Campbell.

In his welcome remarks, Prof. Campbell highlighted Master Guo's distinguished career, noting his recognition by the French government with the Order of Arts and Letters - making him the first Chinese folk musician and first erhu performer to receive this honor. Master Guo's remarkable achievements include over 5,000 concerts in 80 countries, 60 recorded albums, and soundtrack contributions to films including Kung Fu Panda 3 and Shaolin.

The ceremony featured a captivating erhu performance by Master Guo, demonstrating the instrument's profound expressiveness. As the Dean of Paris' Academie d'Art, de Musique et de Danse and collaborator with orchestras like the New York Philharmonic, Master Guo will strengthen cultural ties between France, Hong Kong and Mainland China through regular visits and artistic programs.
