Prof. Jiaxin Shi has received Max Planck Partner Group funding (EUR 100,000, 2026~2031) from Germany’s Max Planck Society. He will lead the project "Geographic Mobility and Health Disparities in Contemporary Aging Societies," which examines how internal migration within countries affects population health and its disparities, contrasting with the existing focus on international migration. Using administrative records and surveys from the US, Europe, and China, the project investigates whether internal migrants are healthier than nonmigrants and evaluates macro-level impacts on health inequalities.
Max Planck Partner Groups are led by outstanding early career researchers and enable collaboration in research areas that are innovative, scientifically promising, and geared to the future. Heading a Max Planck Partner Group is a distinction that provides a high-level and visible framework aimed at strengthening collaboration, building up a research group, and international networking.
