What is the Confirmation of student status for “Work Experience Student”?

The Confirmation of student status for “work experience student” (“Confirmation”) applies to a work experience student who agrees with his employer to treat a continuous period of up to 59 days during the contract of employment as a period of exempt student employment. Under the Minimum Wage Ordinance (Cap. 608), “work experience student” means a student who:

  1. is enrolled in an accredited programme; or
  2. is resident in Hong Kong and enrolled in a non-local education programme,

and who is engaged under a contract of employment at the beginning of which he is under the age of 26 years.

What are the differences between “Student Intern” status and “Work Experience Student”?

Student Intern status   Work Experience Student
A student:

 

  1. undergoing a period of work arranged or endorsed by an education institution in connection with an accredited programme being provided by the institution to the student; or
  2. resident in Hong Kong and undergoing a period of work arranged or endorsed by an institution in connection with a non-local education programme being provided by the institution to the student,

for which the work is a compulsory or elective component of the requirements for the award of the academic qualification to which the programme leads.

  A student who:

 

  1. is enrolled in an accredited programme; or
  2. is resident in Hong Kong and enrolled in a non-local education programme,

and who is engaged under a contract of employment at the beginning of which he is under the age of 26 years.

How to get the “Work Experience Student” form signed and chopped?

Students should send all required documents listed below to shssintern@ust.hk for the School’s review and approval.

Required documents:

  • More documentations may be required upon request.
  • Students are expected to contact relevant departments for documents if required for the NOL application purpose initially and should allow at least 5 working days for preparing documents.
  • Applicants should be responsible for meeting their deadlines and do the time management. SHSS is not responsible to meet the deadlines.
